A message from our Event Coordinator:
I want to take a brief moment to thank everyone who attended, participated or helped to organize our 2019 festival.
We had a huge weekend and we couldn’t have done it without you!
I want to also personally thank the Via Team. I know how many hours, days and months they dedicate to making this festival what it is. Year in and year out.
They all do this because one day, over the last six years, I have asked for help and they came to my aid. The gravity of that never escapes me.
I also want to thank our artists, vendors, musicians, volunteers, staff, cosplayers, community partners and sponsors!
Among the beautiful paintings, the amazing entertainment, the fabulous cosplayers, our tireless volunteers, our awesome vendors, our sponsors and community partners and so many thousands of others – there is always the back story. The why.
I am often asked why? Why have a festival. I always answer because foster children need a voice. They need help. They need someone (or lots of someones) to stand up and say “we will help”
There is another why the general public may not know. The why that drives our team. It is a simple why. The why behind the festival will always be- how many lives can we change for the better with just 48 hours once a year.
The answer – thousands and thousands.
I can’t begin to even quantify the significance of this. Oftentimes we don’t get to see the outcomes of good deeds. We don’t get to see the tidal waves of goodness that stem from the tiny ripples we all contribute. We can today.
12 years ago- I was an artist at the very first Via Colori in Kentucky.
I painted a small 4×4 square. It was a very small alligator sleeping in a bed – and a dragon in a bubble above his head. My gator was dreaming. I stayed within the lines of my 4×4 and was horribly anxious and nervous.
The caption on the painting said “sleep safely and dream big”.
12 years ago – I had no idea how big those dreams would be or how safe I would sleep. Or just how far out of the lines I would color.
Yesterday reminded me of that first year. How far Via has come.
None of it would be possible without you.
Not one bit.
I can’t thank you enough. I don’t know how. I can’t pick the right words at the right time to articulate how much you truly mean to me. Via changes lives. Thousands of lives. It changed mine.
I want to take a final moment to thank our presenting sponsor Mr. Tony Malito of Budget Car Sales! He always says yes! (Woo!!) and he has never failed to step up and help us with this mission. Via wouldn’t be Via without him and his amazing staff!
So today – sleep safely and dream big- because 2020 is just around the corner. See you on the third weekend of October 2020! – Dusty Siravo
